Jayalalithaa orders solatium for kin of rain victims

Eight people died in various rain-related incidents across the State on Saturday.

While expressing her condolences, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered payment of solatium of Rs.2 lakh to the family members of each of the victims from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

An official release on Sunday said three persons hailing from Tiruvannamalai and Tiruchi died due to wall collapse, four belonging to Cuddalore, Villupuram, Pudukottai and Namakkal died due to electrocution and Subash from Kancheepuram fell into a pit filled with water.

Those who died in the wall collapse were identified as Abu Thahir, Rosemary and Pushpavalli. Naresh, Papayi, Alaguraj and Nitish were those who were electrocuted, the release said.

The Chief Minister also ordered payment of solatium of Rs. 2 lakh to the family members of R. Karthik, Grade-II constable of Armed Police XIV battalion in Ramanathapuram district, who was electrocuted while on duty on Saturday.
