IRS officer held

: The Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti Corruption Branch, arrested a Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in Chennai on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a Chartered Accountant for giving a favourable report on the IT search conducted on a private company recently. The Chartered Accountant, Shreyans Bhandari was also arrested.

 According to a statement issued by the CBI, Sallong Yaden, Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Range-VI Nungambakkam, was caught red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from Shreyans Bhandari, a chartered accountant of S.H. Bhandari & Co. This amount was demanded and accepted by Shri Sallong Yaden to give a favourable report on the Income Tax search conducted on a private company based in Chennai, the release said.

 The CBI has registered a case against Mr. Yaden; Hitesh Kawad, Managing Director, SPR and RG Constructions; Sanjay Bhandari of S.H. Bhandari & Co and Shreyans Bhandari.

  Both the accused, Mr. Yaden and Mr. Bhandari, are being produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai.
