The State government will be conducting laser shows on the banks of the Adyar river during the Global Investors’ Meet here next week.

A laser show with advanced technology on the banks of the river will present a glimpse of the government’s achievements — infrastructure development and welfare measures, apart from the State's natural resources. “Along the Adyar, water will be sprayed from a giant screen measuring 160-ft wide and 40-ft tall. Visuals of vibrant colours will offer entertainment,” said an official.

Work is under way along the banks of the river.

Even as environment groups have voiced concern over the staging of such events near waterbodies and also the formation of an access on the river banks, the State government has given permission as a temporary arrangement in view of the event’s importance.

The show is being planned in such a manner that it would not affect the environment, officials said.

The levelling of land along the Adyar river near the Thiru. Vi. Ka. bridge for the show is being done on the stretch where an earlier proposal for a road was made by the government. The project did not take off owing to opposition from environment activists.

In a bid to offer an element of surprise during the Global Investors’ Meet, officials are keeping most of the events under wraps.

At least 16 locations have been selected for such events in the city.

Another event on the Marina near Light House will display visuals about the investment climate in the State.

Various art forms unique to the State are likely to be displayed in the shows.
