Hyundai foundation announces new welfare projects

According to a press release, Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the philanthropic wing of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has announced its’ new community welfare projects for the year 2012 in the presence of N Arul Jothi Arasan, Additional Collector, Project Director, Kancheepuram.

Speaking on the occasion, B.S. Seo, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India, said that the foundation, so far, has planted 100,000 saplings of trees in villages and the they would be tended for another 10 years with the support of HMIF. He also welcomed the ninth batch of ‘Happy Move’ volunteers.

Mr. Arul Jothi Arasan said that HMIF has been on the forefront of driving change in Kancheepuram district. He appreciated the measures of the foundation for creating a difference in the lives of students who have been encouraged to continue their education. He commended on other measures such as clean and hygienic environment, provision of potable water, and others. “I hope more corporate firms emulate these initiatives,” he added. In his address, R. Sethuraman, Trustee, HMIF, said that the foundation focuses on sustainable projects.

This year’s initiatives include: assistance to school meant for differently-abled children at Kancheepuram; donation of three cars to technical institutions as an educational aid; donation of tailoring machines to households in Irungattukkottai; assistance for 50 rural girl students for pursuing nursing programme; and donation of 300 sets of benches and desks to a Government school in Tambaram and Besant Nagar; as many as 50,000 saplings of trees to be planted.

About Happy Move

The community welfare projects of Hyundai Motor India Foundation which was found on April 10, 2006 are being carried out by Happy Move volunteers, university students from Korea, who have been visiting India since 2008. The mission of the group of volunteers is “ To pursue happiness of humankind through sustainable contribution to the community .” They have worked on improving the standard of living in villages around Sriperumbudur which included building classrooms, lavatories, and others.
