House burgled, gold stolen

October 12, 2013 08:00 am | Updated 08:00 am IST - CHENNAI:

Gold jewellery weighing around 60 sovereigns was burgled from a house in Santhoshapuram near Tambaram.

The burglary came to light when the couple who live in the house and who had been away, returned on Friday.

Selaiyur police said Raj Mohan (29), a software professional and his wife had locked their ground floor flat on Kamarajar Street and had gone to Theni on Monday as one of their relatives had passed away.

When they returned on Friday morning, they found the lock on the grille gate broken and the wooden door broken open. The gold jewellery, kept in an almirah, was missing.

Since the almirah’s keys had been left near it, the burglars had found it easy to locate the gold, police said. A case has been registered.
