A landmark of the city now has a global connection. Park Sheraton was formally rechristened as Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park on Friday, signalling the entry of the Intercontinental Hotels Group's (IHG) brand into the city.

The 286-room hotel is the first Crowne Plaza hotel in the city.

Speaking to The Hindu, Bharat Goyal the hotel’s managing director, said the brand brings together two icons in the business.

The erstwhile Sheraton Park Hotel and Towers was initially built as Adyar Gate Hotel.  Shantha de Silva, head of southwest Asia, IHG, said this was the ninth Crowne Plaza in the country and they had planned five more. “We plan to communicate about our partnership through the IHG booking app and loyalty guest programme that has 86 million guests across the globe registered,” said Mr. De Silva.

Chennai will soon have other IHG brands coming in with Intercontinental Chennai Mahabalipuram, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express by next year.
