The Sathguru Thyagaraja Hamsadhwani Award for 2013 was presented to flautist N. Ramani and for the year 2012, posthumously to violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman on Sunday at Hamsadhwani’s 24 annual music festival dedicated to Smt. Gnanamba and Sri. O. Obul Reddy. Lalgudi G. Jayaraman’s award was received by his children Lalgudi Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.

Shriram Group founder-chairman R. Thyagarajan urged Hamsadhwani to organise more instrument concerts so that Carnatic music can reach more youngsters and also foreigners. He said that industrialist Obul Reddy, despite his busy schedule, made time to enjoy and understand Carnatic music. “He came up in life through sheer hard work. Even after his demise, his work is being continued by Vijay Kumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy,” he said. Industries Secretary C.V.Sankar said that musicians like Lalgudi Jayaraman have helped make their native places famous.

Hamsadhwani secretary R. Sundar said Lalgudi G. Jayaraman was not only a performer but a guru and choreographer. N. Ramani was a very calm and composed musician, who believed in continuous learning. Hamsadhwani Vice-president V.V. Sundaram said that Thyagaraja bhakthi and hard work were common to Lalgudi and Ramani. Sabha president Ramnath Mani was also present.
