The Madras High Court has restrained an event management company from using the term ‘Kiddathon’ for an event conducted for children at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

The interim injunction was granted following a civil suit filed by Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table (MCRT) 94.

Justice M. Sundar passed the order after it was represented that though VJ Eventz had agreed to change the name of their event from ‘Kiddathon’ to ‘Madras Kids Run’, the change had not been reflected on a website through which the children as well as parents could register and pay registration charges for participating in the events.

In its plaint, MCRT 94 stated that it had been conducting running races for children of various age groups under the title of ‘Madras Kidathon’ since 2014. However, recently, it began receiving queries with regard to a similar event and on enquiry it came to know that it was organised by VJ Eventz.

Immediately, a cease and desist notice was issued to the event management company which replied that it shall not use the term ‘Kiddathon’. Yet, the ticket booking website continued to use the term, the plaintiff alleged and sought an ex parte interim injunction.
