The Madras High Court on Tuesday declined to modify its earlier order permitting the principal of a private college here to continue in the post till a fresh selection is made.
Justice M.M. Sundresh made it clear that the present principal should not participate in the selection process since she was also one of the candidates.
On January 7, the judge had set aside the selection of A. Nirmala as the principal of Ethiraj College. He had directed the chairman, Board of Trustees and the chairperson of the selection committee to reconstitute the panel strictly as per the UGC regulations 2010. Till a fresh selection was made, Dr. Nirmala should be allowed to continue.
Seeking to modify the order, K.R.S. Girija Shyamsundar and three others filed the present petition. Counsel submitted that as Dr. Nirmala’s selection had been quashed, it would be fair if she was not allowed to continue in the post till a new selection.
Disposing of the petition, Mr.Justice Sundresh said he was not inclined to go into the rival submissions. He passed the earlier order only by way of an interim measure till the selection process was over.
