The government will take initiatives to start work on a mega food park and mini food parks across the State to facilitate better income for farmers, said Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameswar Teli.

Speaking at the “International conference and exhibition on emerging technologies in food processing sector” in Chennai on Friday, Mr. Teli said the State government should find land parcels for setting up a mega food park in the State.

Pointing to a recent meeting on food processing in Madurai, Mr. Teli said MPs from the State had met him to start mini food parks in their constituencies. “I met Member of Parliament O.P. Ravindranath Kumar. He wanted to start a mini food park in Theni district,” said Mr. Teli.

50% subsidy

“Please talk to the Deputy Chief Minister to allocate 50 acres. We will give 50% subsidy to set up the park. Our Department wants to set up a big food park in Tamil Nadu,” said Mr. Teli.

Urging entrepreneurs in the State to make optimum use of the increase in production of vegetables and valuable rice varieties in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Teli said “our Department will help entrepreneurs in the food processing industry. ST/SC entrepreneurs, who wish to set up industry, will get a 50% subsidy,” said Mr. Teli.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Kamaraj said entrepreneurs should strengthen the food processing industry in the State.
