Governments should focus on providing proper education, health and employment to the people and not on selling liquor, said Anbumani Ramadoss, PMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate.
At an anti-liquor campaign organised by the party women’s wing here on Monday, Mr. Anbumani said the DMK and AIADMK governments promoted the sale of liquor and at present a large number of youth and even women were affected.
Last year, the revenue earned form liquor was over Rs 36,000 crore, which was one third of the State’s Own Tax Revenue, he said, criticising the AIADMK government for disrespecting public sentiments.
The PMK leader was critical of the DMK for introducing liquor 44 years ago. If the DMK leaders closed the liquor manufacturing units they owned, then 50 per cent of the alcohol supplied in the State would stop, he said. “
As youth were wasting their life in liquor shops, he said the government should focus on providing free health and education.
