Four persons belonging to two different families were killed when firecrackers stacked in a house at Nagaluthu Street, Little Kancheepuram, exploded on Tuesday.

The police said, the accident occurred around 3 p.m. when Mushtaq, 22, son of Madheen, 55, was sorting the stock bought from a local manufacturing unit at Nemili in Vellore. They were meant for the subscribers of the ‘festival chit fund’ scheme the family ran.

When his mother, Saina Begum, 45, was preparing food in the single room house, the crackers exploded, killing them both.

The blast’s impact knocked down the wall, killing Masthan, 47, and injuring his mother, Sharbun Beevi, 68. She later succumbed to her injuries at the Government District Headquarters hospital, the police said.

The police are interrogating Madheen.
