A 54-year-old man who fought to retain his phone from mobile snatchers was assaulted with an iron rod by one of them, in Urapakkam on Friday.

On Friday night, T. Ranganathan was walking home from the Urapakkam railway station. “When I reached near my house, six men, on two motorcycles, rode past me. The first vehicle went past me, but a man on the second motorcycle tried to snatch my phone,” he said.

“I held on to my phone and ran till the main road. As they were unsuccessful in getting my phone, one of them took an iron rod and hit me on the head twice. My head started bleeding profusely,” he said.

He went to the police station with the injury, but the personnel asked him to get treatment and assured him that a complaint would be taken from him.
