Yet another student of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) ended his life on Monday morning on the campus in Kattankulathur. Police said the victim, a 19-year-old student from Jharkand, was studying first year ECE. He jumped off the second floor of the hostel building, leaving behind a suicide note. The Maraimalai Nagar police recovered the body.

On Sunday, a 23 year-old from Ponneri, ended her life by jumping off another building, the police said.

In a press release, the Registrar of SRMIST said: “There are on-campus counsellors who provide guidance to needy students. In spite of such a support mechanism, a final year student who was depressed due to personal issues took her life (on Sunday).”

“A second semester student also took his life. It was probably due to his inability to cope with academic pressure,” said the Registrar.

Help to overcome suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s helpline 104 and Sneha’s suicide prevention line 044-24640050.
