Though the commercial hub of T. Nagar attracts more than two lakh shoppers every day in the festive season, complaints of snatching, robbing and stealing have come down compared to previous years, thanks to constant surveillance and monitoring by police personnel.

Police said there were nine complaints of missing mobile phones — only six occurred on the busy Ranganathan Street — from October 27 to November 5, compared to 15 complaints of missing mobile phones in previous years. Likewise, cases of pick-pocketing reduced from five last year to two. There have been no cases of attention diversion this year. Assistant Commissioner of Police A.Selvam said, “Drones and personnel fitted with body cameras were deployed. The arrangements made by us were a major deterrent for offenders.”
