The DMK on Monday submitted a memorandum to the President, bringing to her notice the human rights violation being committed by prison officials in the State where the party's present and former legislators were being detained on false complaints.

In a memorandum, the DMK legislators alleged that the law enforcing authorities in various prisons were committing human rights violations on party legislators lodged in central prisons in Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Salem, Tiruchi, Vellore and Palayamkottai. When the party leaders visited, the DMK's legislators, past and present, had informed them that they were being ill-treated by not providing quality food in time and not permitting to take regular medicines, including life saving drugs, at the appropriate time leading to deterioration of health.

In total, the prison officials were adopting unjust, unfair and illegal methods, the DMK said.

A copy of the memorandum was also sent to the Governor, Chief Secretary and Chairpersons of the National and State Human Rights Commission.
