DMDK rubbishes report of alliance deal with DMK

March 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 06, 2016 10:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

The DMDK, on Saturday, rubbished media reports that it had struck an electoral deal with the DMK and had been allotted 59 seats as part of the arrangement.

The remark came days after DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin dismissed such reports and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar went back to New Delhi empty-handed after his attempts to meet party president Vijayakant failed.

An official statement issued by party propaganda secretary V. C. Chandhrakumar said imaginary stories about alliances involving the DMDK were being spread wantonly by some. “In this manner, it is being said the party has struck a deal with an outfit for 59 seats and was in secret negotiations with another one and that several crores of rupees have been exchanged. Stories are being spread that party leader Vijayakant was keeping silent to increase his bargain,” the statement pointed out.

Mr. Chandhrakumar said till this moment Mr. Vijayakant had not held alliance discussions with any party. “As far as the DMDK is concerned, only the decision made by Mr. Vijayakant is true and official,” he added.

The whip of the party in the Assembly said Mr. Vijayakant had been guiding the party since 2005 and had strengthened it manifold.

“Any courageous decision he makes would be good for the party and the people. Not only party workers but the general public too would accept his decision,” he said.
