Dialysis wing at Omandurar hospital begins functioning

March 12, 2014 01:29 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 08:06 am IST - CHENNAI:

The dialysis wing at the recently-inaugurated government multi super-specialty hospital on the Omandurar government estate has started to function.

Sources in the health department said five patients have been admitted for undergoing dialysis.

Since its inauguration last month, the hospital has seen about 250 out-patients every day, for super-specialty OP consultation.

Currently, it has a total of 50 in-patients.

The hospital has four medical departments (cardiology, neurology, medical oncology, nephrology) and five surgical departments (cardiothoracic, neuro, hand and reconstructive micro surgery, vascular and surgical oncology), according to officials.

In addition, tumour ablation has been added to the computer tomography (CT) scanner.

“If there is a tumour in the liver, it can be ablated, instead of the patient undergoing operation for removal of the tumour,” an official said.

The hospital has a total of 20 dialysis units.
