Burglars struck at a house in Palavakkam in broad daylight on Friday and decamped with jewellery weighing 35 sovereigns, silver items, cash and valuables.
According to police sources, the suspects gained entry in to the house of M.Srinivasan (40) in Krishna Nagar by breaking open the front door lock. Srinivasan, who owns a pharmacy in Adyar, and his wife Nalina (34) had gone out.
“I had left home for work early in the morning and my wife locked our house and came to the medical shop around 11.30 a.m. We returned home around 1.30 p.m. for lunch and found that the front door lock was broken and all the lights inside the house were on,” Srinivasan said. “Jewellery weighing 35 sovereigns, Rs.10,000 cash, two credit cards and voter ID cards kept in an almirahare missing. From the other almirah, a digital camera and also some silver items were missing,” he added.
A Neelankarai police team conducted preliminary investigations and fingerprint experts searched the house for clues. The culprits managed to commit the crime on Friday afternoon and the neighbours and passersby did not find anything amiss, police sources added.
