Country-made gun seized from shopkeeper

A special team attached to the Flower Bazaar police station arrested a shopkeeper on charges of possessing a country-made gun in Sowcarpet on Tuesday. He ran his shop during the day and looted shops with the help of a hired gang from Rajasthan in the night, the police said. Naren alias Narender Singh, 37, is from Rajasthan. When the special team was interrogating a suspect, they received tip-off that he had procured a gun. During inquiry, it was found he had purchased it for ₹5,000.

12-year-old girl rescued

A woman constable from Koyambedu rescued a 12-year-old girl who had eloped with a 18-year-old autorickshaw driver from Bengaluru on Tuesday night. According to police, constable Sasikala, on duty at the Koyambedu bus terminus, spotted the duo. Ms. Sasikala questioned the girl. “ Sasikala found out that the two were from Ulsoor and called up the Ulsoor police station,” said a police officer. They informed the CMBT police that the girl was kidnapped by the boy. The police have detained the two.

Man murders wife

A 45-year-old man murdered his wife using a sharp weapon in public while she was walking home on Vaidyanathan Street on Wednesday afternoon. He suspected that she was having an affair. According to police, David, an autorickshaw driver was married to Lekha, 37, and the couple have two daughters. However, a year ago, Lekha started living separately over a quarrel with David. On Wednesday around 3 p.m., David stabbed her. The public alerted the Chetpet police and they nabbed David.

Search on for fake policeman

Arumbakkam police are on the lookout for a fake policeman who accompanied an 80-year-old woman’s body from Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital to her house and stole her ornaments 10 days ago. Guna Bai died at the GH 10 days ago. When her daughter Latha Rugmani was arranging for the ambulance, a man identified himself as Rajesh, a policeman, and offered help. He helped her in taking the body to her house in Chozhan Nagar, Arumbakkam and stole Guna Bai’s jewellery.

Newly married couple end life

A newly married couple hanged themselves at their residence in Madipakkam on Wednesday. The woman was pregnant. The police said Sarathy, 31, got married to Prasanthi, 25, in July. In November last year, his mother had passed away. He was depressed over his mother’s death. The Madipakkam police have sent the bodies for post-mortem. Five-member gang arrested in ICF locality

The police arrested a five-member gang with weapons, from a house in ICF locality on Tuesday. According to the police, the gang was under the influence of ganja and on the terrace of a house in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in ICF locality. The suspects tried to jump to the adjacent building and also threatened to attack the police. The policemen managed to overpower them.
