more-in

The Tamil Nadu units of the Congress and BJP have joined the chorus in urging the Centre to support the U.S-backed resolution condemning human rights violations against Tamils in Sri Lanka, at the UN Human Rights Council. In a statement here, TNCC president, B.S. Gnanadesikan said that the Congress was always sympathetic to the island Tamils. With the resolution coming up before the UN rights council, he would persuade the Centre to support it.

BJP president Pon. Radhakrishnan said India should take a stand against the Sri Lankan government at the Council.

If the Centre took a stand in support of the Sri Lankan government, the DMK should announce that it will withdraw support to the Congress-led UPA government, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.
