The Chennai Corporation will develop the city’s first multi-modal facility in Broadway, integrating various modes of public transport, creating parking lots and building up commercial spaces.

At a meeting to kick-start the process of preparing the feasibility report on Thursday, civic officials stressed on the need for revamping Broadway by developing the city’s first multi-modal facility.

Various elements

The facility will be based in a space of three acres, with various elements such as skywalk across many congested roads such as Rajaji Salai, NSC Bose Road and Broadway.

“The consultant will submit the report in two months. The project will ease congestion and integrate all modes of transport including bus, train, metro, taxi and non-motorised transit,” said an official.

The consultant will decide on the space required for multi-level parking after assessing the demand for parking along various roads in the vicinity of George Town.

“We have studied similar projects in other cities like Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. This facility will make the area a hub of multi-modal integration in the city,” said an official.
