National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), in partnership with Laurus Edutech, has recently launched Skill India Partner Programme. In his address, Governor K. Rosaiah appreciated the concerted efforts of the State Government to meet the demand for hands with employable skills by organising training programmes to the underprivileged section of the society. He said that imparting minimum set of skills to economically-poor people would help them fetch entry-level jobs in various sectors. This would lead to higher economic growth.
“The changing global scenario and rapid industrialisation have resulted in the need to produce skilled human resources. This programme, which aims to train15 crore people of its national target of 50 crore, is an ideal approach to meet the requirement,” he added. Another objective of the programme is to fund companies which take initiatives to organise training workshops and also to set up sector skill councils. On the occasion, the Governor presented awards to a couple of students of Laurus Edutech for whom the programme has made a lot of difference. Mohan Pyare, Principal Secretary, Department of Labour and Employment, was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Rao Cheedella, Managing Director, Laurus Edutech, said the programme will meet the requirements of the industry.
Gayatri Paul, Associate Director, DLF Foundation, which is a partner of Laurus Edutech, said “DLF Foundation and Laurus Edutech have set up 16 DLF Skill India training centers across the country and more than 75 per cent of the students receiving training have been provided jobs in large corporate & industrial houses.”
NSDC which has been formed as a PPP initiative of the Government and Industry Chambers of Commerce has today over 60 approved training partners who have trained over 2.6 lakh students and about 16 sector skills councils.
Laurus Edutech as an NSDC Partner would be setting up over 540 centres and over 330 of the centres would come in the form of SIPP and jointly with the industry. Laurus Edutech which has signed up with companies such as DLF Foundation, Tata Motors, SSWL, Naturals, ADOR Welding etc., has commenced setting up and operating centres as part of this programme. Across these 540 centres, Laurus Edutech would be training over 11 lakh students in the next 10 years.
