In a shocking road accident on Velachery-Taramani 100 ft Road, a car ran amok and ran over three platform dwellers, including a pregnant woman,in the early hours of Monday. A cow also died in the accident.

According to Chennai City Traffic Police sources, the accident took place around 1.00 a.m. at the Bharati Nagar bus stop near TCS office there.

An overspeeding grey hatchback taxi with three men — allegedly under the influence of alcohol — rammed into a cow on the road and took a swift turn. The car went on the platform and ran over three people who were sleeping on the platform.

A 63-year-old woman was killed on the spot while couple Arumugam (35) and Aishwarya (29) died at a hospital shortly. Aishwarya was six months pregnant. The animal which the car rammed into initially also died in the accident.

Guindy traffic police identified the three occupants of the car as Sasikumar (28), Sivakumar (29), both from Kallukuttai, and their friend Deva. While Mr. Sasikumar and Mr. Deva fled the scene, public nabbed Mr. Sivakumar who was inebriated at the time.

The vehicle belonged to a car hiring firm in Velachery. Mr. Sasikumar is known to have driven the car and Mr. Sivakumar, the manager of the firm, was the passenger in front, police sources said.

The three bodies have been shifted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Traffic police are questioning Mr. Sivakumar to trackdown the absconding duo.
