March 30, 2012 01:11 am | Updated 01:11 am IST - Chennai:

Sri Ramakrishna Math Vivekananda Centenary Girls' Higher Secondary School in Mint, which completes 50 years of functioning this July, will celebrate its golden jubilee year not just with cultural programmes but also with the opening of additional classrooms being constructed to accommodate English medium classes for higher secondary commerce students.

The construction is being undertaken at a cost of Rs. 70 lakh and the classrooms will be functional from the coming academic year, said Swami Vidyananda, secretary of the school. Headmistress S. Lakshmi said that the school has started English medium classes in the commerce stream to retain its students. This was the only stream that had only Tamil medium classes. Funding was obtained through donations by individuals and organisations, she said. The golden jubilee begins on July 20.
