Call to fill 94 teacher posts allotted for visually challenged in Chennai

College students and graduates association of the blind have urged the government to immediately fill the 94 backlog vacancies for the post of teachers notified for the academic year of 2012-13.

The office-bearers of the association told reporters on Tuesday that the Teachers Recruitment Board notified 110 vacancies during 2012-13 for the visually challenged. In the vacancies for graduate teachers notified during 2011-12, 89 posts were set apart for the visually challenged.

The association urged the government to consider the recruitment of candidates who successfully went through the examination and certificate verification in August 2013 and May 21, 2014, for clearing the vacancies. Priority should be given to those who took Tamil as their main subject.

The association also urged the government to collect details of the backlog vacancies and current vacancies in the posts meant for the differently-abled and visually challenged in Corporations, municipalities, the Social Welfare Department, the Backward Classes and Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, the Forest Department and Tangedco, besides government-aided schools. The statistics could be used to fill the vacancies in the next recruitment drive.
