Buttermilk for traffic police

March 02, 2019 01:35 am | Updated 01:35 am IST - CHENNAI

With the mercury level rising rapidly over the past few days, the city police began distributing buttermilk to personnel manning traffic intersections from Friday. Commissioner of Police A.K. Viswanathan launched the initiative by handing over a few pouches of buttermilk to the traffic constables who were on duty at Anna Salai near Spencer’s signal. A total of 5,000 traffic police personnel, from constables to Assistant Commissioners of Police, will be given buttermilk at their work spots. Additional Commissioner, Traffic, A.Arun and other officials were present on the occasion.

The buttermilk will be served twice a day — at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mr. Viswanathan said over ₹25 lakh was allocated to be spent on the welfare programme. The buttermilk will be supplied to them for four months to beat the fatigue.
