In the absence of bus-shelters at Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) stopovers in Sholinganallur, commuters find themselves in an unenviable situation, braving the blazing sun and downpours. One such stopover is located on Medavakkam High Road and the another on Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai.

Both luxury and ordinary services halt at these stopovers. The route numbers are : 95 (From Thiruvanmiyur to Tambaram East); 99 (From Adyar to Tambaram West) and M51 (From T. Nagar to Sholinganallur).

When compared to the stopover at Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai, the Medavakkam High Road stopover enjoys good patronage.

P. Vishwanathan, a resident of Chitlapakkam, says, “The stopovers are spacious and therefore shelters with seating facilities can be provided.”

At Perumbakkam

Similarly, the Perumbakkam stopover on Medavakkam High Road also lacks a bus-shelter. Residents of Perumbakkam pointed out that the stopover at Perumbakkam is located on a sharp curve of Medavakkam High Road.

“As the stopover is located on a bend of the road, it is risky for the commuters. Therefore, this stopover needs to be shifted to a safer location,” says K. Sarangadass, convener, Federation of Perumbakkam Residents Welfare Association. In this regard, a State Highways Department official says, “The authorities concerned have not approached us for construction of bus-shelters. If they do so, we will construct the shelters at the earliest.”
