Bomb threat at Central station turns out hoax

October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

A bomb threat at Chennai Central railway station kept policemen on their toes on Monday. The threat later turned out to be a hoax.

Around 5 p.m. on Monday evening, the railway police control room received a call, with the caller informing policemen on duty that a bomb had been placed at the Station.

Immediately, the Bomb Detection and Disposal of both Chennai City Police and Railway Protection Force were alerted. The station was completely searched, including the platforms and compartments of the trains. A suspicious device fitted with a wire was found, but it was not an explosive device. Later, the call was declared as a hoax. An investigation is on to trace the caller, police sources said.
