An Air India aircraft carrying 155 passengers from Singapore was hit by a bird on Monday, as it was about to land at the Chennai airport. No one was injured. The incident occured at 10.15 a.m., during descent at an altitude of 400 feet just before it entered the airport premises. The nose of the aircraft was damaged.

According to the officials, repairs on the aircraft have started but will take a few days to complete. This aircraft was scheduled to return to Singapore later in the day, but was delayed owing to the accident and the passengers were sent on another flight, later in the day. This is the second occurrence this year.

“We have trained personnel who burst crackers near the runway to scare birds. We have been disposing garbage regularly so that it does not attract birds; yet, this problem continues,” an official said.
