Women who questioned a group of bikers for speeding on their street in Velachery on Monday evening were brutally assaulted. The group also damaged parked cars in a rage.
Guindy police said the incident unfolded on Nedunchezhiyan Street in Nehru Nagar, Velachery, around 6 p.m. on Monday when four men on two motorcycles rode in at high speed.
They knocked down a woman on the street following which the residents retaliated by nabbing them. The women residents warned the bikers against their behaviour and some men assaulted them and chased them away. Around 10.30 p.m., the bikers returned with three of their friends and began damaging parked cars. When a resident, identified as Selvi Krishnamoorthi (46), attempted to stop them, the group attacked her, fracturing her left arm. They also assaulted a teenaged girl before speeding away.
Six youths, all residents of Mathiazhagan Street in Velachery, were arrested on Tuesday.
