The Chromepet police arrested seven youth, including a juvenile, on Friday for assaulting the staff of an eatery on finding that the parottas served in the vegetarian restaurant to be overpriced.

The spat began when a 16-year old boy in the group, on making enquiries about the price of parottas, started an argument and asked his friends to alight from the bus they were in. The verbal duel ended up in a scuffle with eatery workers. A video clip shows them attacking each other with plastic chairs.

The police said the accused were returning after participating in a demonstration. Six of the accused are: P. Satheesh Muthaiah, K. Sivaprakash, R. Balachandran, S. Veerapandi, S. Perarivalan and M. Muthukumar. The seventh accused is the 16-year old boy from Tirunelveli district. They were booked on charges of assault.

While the six were lodged in prison, the boy was sent to an observation home.
