Auto expo begins

The second edition of The Hindu's ‘Auto Expo 2011', powered by SBI Car Loan, opens on Friday at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam. The fair, being held till October 23, will showcase 12 top brands and feature 20 stalls of leading Indian, German, Korean and American car manufacturers. Luxury, vintage cars and accessories will be on display. The expo will feature brands such as BMW, Audi, Tata Motors, Ford India, Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota, Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Skoda and Hyosung. Bosch car wash, Pidilite, Moto mall and Arcus Auto Accessories from the accessory industry are participating in the expo, which will be inaugurated by K.M. Mammen, Chairman and Managing Director, MRF.

The special pavilion for vintage cars will display models such as Bug 8 1947, Austin Chummy 1926, Rover 1947, Plymouth PJ Series 1935, Bug Fiat 500A 1935, Morris Minor 1951, Plymouth Savoy 1956, Austin 8 1947, Fiat Topolino 1952, Jaguar 1966, MG 1953, Studebaker 1957 and the Morris 1000. The Luxury Pavilion will also display Porsche Panamera.

An additional attraction is an exhibition of motoring pictures from 1910 to 1935, from The Hindu archives.

Day one of the auto expo is for customers of all participating companies and special invitees. The expo is open to everyone on the remaining two days. An entry fee of Rs.50 will be charged per person.
