Anna University gets new registrar

V-C says appointment was overdue

J. Kumar, Director, Planning and Development, has been appointed as Anna University Registrar (in-charge).

University Vice Chancellor M.K. Surappa said Mr. Kumar was appointed as former Registrar S. Ganesan had sought to be relieved from the post. Though Mr. Ganesan’s tenure had ended long back, it was extended by the then convenor committee till a new registrar was appointed.

Earlier in the day, Anna University Teachers’ Association had sought action against the Registrar, alleging that he was involved in malpractices. The association members said they had written to the Governor-Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit to issue directions to the Vice Chancellor, M.K. Surappa, “to appoint a new registrar forthwith.” The V-C said the appointment was long overdue when asked if it had anything to do with the complaints.

In a release, the Association said it was ashamed at the malpractices the university was mired in and demanded the removal of Mr. Ganesan who they alleged “was the main party to all the corrupt activities that happened in the last five years.”

“I have received the AUTA’s note. They have only mentioned the allegations but I need proof. We need facts and evidence. I received evidence against Prof. Uma and acted on that basis,” he said.
