An unpleasant drive on Ennore flyover

Without functional lights, the night journey on this thoroughfare is fraught with high risk

R. Pradeep, a motorist and a resident of Royapuram, was riding towards Ennore bus terminus on Ennore flyover when a van coming in the opposite direction with hiheadlights on high beam blinded him, forcing him to bring his two-wheeler to a sudden stop.

Pradeep was in a state of shock for a few minutes. He did not think driving on the flyover would be this challenging.

That’s because the lights on the flyover were not functioning that night and this hampered his visibility. The motorist was proceeding to Ennore Expressway from Kathivakkam High Road on the flyover. Luckily, he applied the brakes on time.

For more than a week now, the non-functional lights on the flyover is posing an inconvenience to motorists. The flyover provides easy connectivity to Ennore Expressway from Kathivakkam High Road and vice-versa rather than taking a detour through Thazhan Kuppam and Periya Kuppam, Ennore Expressway.

After sunset, the flyover is a nightmare for the motorists with non-functional Light Emitting Dioxide (LED) lights, lack of medians and speed breakers, and motorists driving at a good speed and jumping lanes.

“Riding on the facility after sunset is a nightmare. The State Highways Department should take steps to provide illumination at the earliest,” R. Sudhakar, a motorist and a resident of Ernavoor, said.

A State Highways Department official assured to take steps to ensure lighting facilities on the flyover are well-lit.
