After nearly three days, customers of Indian Overseas Bank in the city managed to carry out transactions on Thursday.
Many customers had been unable to deposit cheques or use their ATM cards due to computer connectivity failure. Customers at Purasawalkam branch said their business transactions were affected as they could not access their bank accounts, including via internet, for three days. Their debit cards did not work even in ATMs of other banks.
On Thursday morning, many people gathered in front of IOB’s branches. Banking operations were restored around noon. Kiran Subbaiah, a customer at Anna Nagar, said that he had on many occasions visited branches or contacted them over the past three days.
Some customers decided to wait for one more day to carry out their transactions.
The bank has 129 branches in the city and caters to nearly 12 lakh customers. Officials of the IOB said that a technical snag in the core banking system affected the services across the country. A team from Mumbai had helped in restoring the system by Thursday noon.
Some transactions were done based on the account holders’ Saturday balance, an official said.
