After tapping the Singapore and Hong Kong markets, Aavin has now shipped its ultra heat treated (UHT) milk to Qatar.
One litre packs with a shelf life of 180 days without refrigeration will be sold in supermarkets and hypermarkets in that country from Friday.
“We wanted to make our products available to Indians, especially Tamils, living in these countries,” said C. Kamaraj, managing director, Aavin.
From November last year, a total of 23 containers carrying 2.18 lakh litres of milk valued at ₹104.80 lakh have been shipped to Singapore and Hong Kong.
“We have appointed import agents in these places and they supply milk to the stores. For Qatar, we have already shipped 15,600 packs valued at ₹7.49 lakh. We have set a target of 30,000-40,000 litres of milk a month for Qatar,” he said.
The milk major also plans to supply ghee and skimmed milk to these countries as not just Indians but local residents in these countries too pick up Aavin products.
It has made a special tin for export markets. “We next plan to sell in Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Mauritius. Our marketing teams are in touch with countries where there is demand for milk,” Mr. Kamaraj said.
The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation currently procures 34 lakh litres of milk a day in the State.
