A look at the cut-and-cover drain projects at Chitlapakkam in Chennai

In September last year, the Public Works Department and the Chitlapakkam Town Panchayat started work towards the construction of a cut-and-cover drain as part of a flood mitigation project at a cost of ₹12 crore and ₹5 crore respectively. Digging works under both projects started in October last year with a six-month deadline to meet However, eight months on, the cut-and-cover drains are nowhere near completion. In fact, in some streets, the work is yet to begin.
