A delegation of ‘gram sarpanchs’ (panchayat presidents) from Jammu and Kashmir visited the wealth-from-waste generation centre, reverse osmosis plant and packaged water plant and learnt about the functioning of women self-help groups (SHGs) in suburban Mudichur near Tambaram on Friday.
They are in the city as part of their four-day training-cum-exposure visit programme for young elected panchayat representatives from Jammu and Kashmir organised by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur.
The team interacted with SHG members on schemes implemented to improve quality of life in rural areas.
The visiting team members hailed from far away places like Ladakh, Leh and Kargil.
“They have undergone 12 sessions of theory classes on leadership development, powers of village panchayats,” said P. Damodaran, president of Mudichur Village Panchayat.
