Train heist: search on for clues

August 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 20, 2016 01:01 pm IST - CHENNAI:

For the second day, experts from the Department of Forensics scouted for possible clues in the parcel van attached to the Salem–Chennai Express.

The three parcel vans continued to be stationed at the parcel siding at the Egmore Railway Station. While there was no official word from spokespersons or officials belonging to the railway administration or its security agencies – the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force – police sources said a thorough search of the coach (No. 08831) was made.

Forensic experts and police had stumbled on blood stains, pointing to a possible injury suffered by the suspect while creating the hole on the roof using a sharp instrument, or while trying to make a getaway. Sources also added that after complete examination of the compartment, a detailed report would be prepared and submitted to the investigating agencies. Investigations also centred around finding the possible gadgets that could have been used to create the hole on the roof, source said.

Leads from CCTV footage

Police sources also said that they had browsed through footages obtained through closed circuit television cameras at Egmore and other stations, but were yet to zero-in on any conclusive image that could give them a clue. However, they were investigating the case from all possible angles. Sources were confident that the case would be solved at the earliest.
