The price of tomatoes, which soared to Rs. 100 a kg, dipped slightly at the Koyambedu wholesale market on Thursday. However, traders fear that the escalating trend may continue till the month-end because of poor yields.

On Thursday, tomatoes were sold at Rs. 70 a kg in the wholesale market as sales dipped by 25 per cent.

Though the shortage continues in the city, traders reduced the price to clear stock as customers were otherwise hesitating to buy the expensive vegetable.

Residents have been avoiding purchase of the vegetable or limiting the amount they buy
