Tension prevailed on Tuesday evening at Thirukazhukundram after eight-year-old twins and a 45-year-old person were killed in a road accident involving a moped and a bus.

According to the police, the mishap took place around 4.30 p.m. when the twins — Raman and Lakshmanan - were waiting on Thirukazhukundram-Mamallapuram Road along with Sathish, son of Bhoopathi of Kazhanipakkam, to board a bus to return home from school. Bhoopathi saw his son and the twins and halted his vehicle to pick them up. A private bus proceeding towards Chengalpattu hit the moped head-on, killing Bhoopathi, Raman and Lakshmanan on the spot as the driver allegedly attempted to overtake. Sathish sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital, police said.

A large number of people gathered and squatted on the road demanding stern action against heavy vehicle drivers who drove recklessly. Police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd.
