: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has received a quotation of Rs. 4.50 per unit for supply of solar power from a private player in the State.

The quotation was in response to a tender floated by TANGEDCO to purchase 500 MW of solar power to fulfil its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO). The sealing price was fixed at Rs. 5.10 per unit as fixed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC). A senior official of TANGEDCO said a total of 20 solar power suppliers participated in the tender, proposing to supply 116 MW of power, with one party quoting the lowest price of Rs. 4.50 per unit. TANGEDCO plans to negotiate with the remaining 19 solar generators who have quoted between Rs. 4.67 and Rs. 4.90 per unit.

“We have proposed to negotiate with them to have a uniform price of Rs. 4.50 per unit,” the official said.

While senior officials refused to disclose the name of the lowest bidder, industry sources confirmed it to be the GRT Group.
