Stalin presents laptops to officers

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday distributed 88 laptops, estimated to cost Rs. 35 lakh, to officers of the Registration department.

The procurement of the laptops was part of a Rs.5 crore project, funded by the Union government, to improve the functioning of the department through e-governance. All the sub-registrar offices would have broadband connections under the project, according to an official release.

In February 2000, the computerisation programme of the department was launched by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. As many as 559 sub-registrar offices were computerised, the release added.
