The services of all 25,000 persons recruited as drivers and conductors in the State transport corporations will be regularised soon, said K.N. Nehru, Transport Minister, here on Saturday.
“We have recruited about 25,000 drivers and conductors on temporary basis and their services are being gradually regularised. All of them will be regularised within the next couple of months,” he said.
Mr. Nehru was addressing a function held to distribute rewards and certificates to drivers with accident-free record, appointment orders to persons recruited on compassionate grounds, promotion orders to employees and regularisation orders to a batch of drivers and conductors of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam.
The government will protect the rights of transport corporation workers, Mr. Nehru said. Wage agreement for transport workers would be finalised in consultation with Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, taking into account various demands placed by the unions.
He also disclosed that the demand for relaxing the rule stipulating Standard VIII as the minimum qualification for drivers has been taken up with the Chief Minister.
Mr. Nehru handed over rewards to 132 drivers with accident-free records, appointment orders to 25 persons on compassionate grounds, promotion orders to 62 employees and regularisation orders to 78 drivers and conductors.
