Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday called upon his party members to present the State government’s host of welfare measures and achievements to voters of Vandavasi and Tiruchendur assembly constituencies, which would be going to by-elections shortly.
Indicating that he would not be able to visit the areas in view of his health and the fact that the constituencies were facing the by-polls, Mr. Karunanidhi, in a nine-page statement, gave an exhaustive account of the government’s performance in the last three and a half years.
He said the Opposition was confused as to how to seek votes in the elections and what charges it could level against the government.
He added that while the party south zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri was in charge of the campaign work for Tiruchendur, Tiruvannamalai district secretary E.V. Velu was looking after the work in Vandavasi. Several party leaders including K. Anbazhagan, M.K. Stalin and Kanimozhi were drafted into the campaign. The party’s success in the by-elections would be a victory for its feeling for the Tamil race and ideological commitment.
