A man was lured into a trap and attacked by a gang in Kanathur here on Thursday.
According to police sources, A. Rajiv (27), working as territory manager in a pharmaceutical firm at Tiruchi, received a call from a ‘girl' inviting him to Chennai for a meeting. The call was actually made by a boy who spoke in a female voice.
Rajiv arrived in Tambaram by a train and was guided by the ‘girl' to reach a mall at Kanathur on East Coast Road. On reaching there, he was confronted by a four-member gang, mostly college students, who attached him with knives. On hearing the cries of Rajiv, local people rescued him after overpowering the gang.
On information, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thoraipakkam) K.N. Murali sent a special team to take custody of the accused S. Praveen (20) and his friends E. Ramachandran (20) of Perambur, G. Dio Dicruz (20) of Peravallur and S. Sudhakar (20) of Vyasarpadi. They were handed over to the Neelankarai police.
“The victim has been admitted to a private hospital where his condition is stable. We have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused persons. For about a month, Praveen has been talking to Rajiv by imitating a girl's voice. He is a good mimicry artist…he even sent the photograph of model to Rajiv by email to lure him into the trap,” S. Sankaralingam, Inspector of Police, Neelankarai, said.
