Funfair for physically challenged children

August 29, 2010 01:03 am | Updated 01:03 am IST - CHENNAI:

A funfair for physically challenged children called ‘Corporate Commitment' will be organised by the Shakti Foundation in the city on September 4.

The event will have stalls set up by various corporate houses to express their solidarity towards the inclusion and integration of the children in the mainstream.

The event will start off with a pledge to be read for the physically challenged, which will be followed by a march past of 900 physically challenged children.

N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu will be the chief guest for the event.

On ‘Corporate commitment' Vasanth Raghuvir, Chairman of Shakti Foundation, said, “the event is all about the corporate houses, for one day making time, setting aside schedules, forgetting deadlines and giving their time and presence selflessly to a segment of society that is in acute need of acceptance.”

Through the event the Foundation seeks to arrange for representatives from companies to interact closely with the children and visibly experience the challenges the children face.

More contribution needed

Cricketer Anil Kumble who has been associated with the Shakti Foundation for close to 13 years hoped that sensitivity towards the children would be sustained and extended to all walks of life and not confined to the single day.

“The corporate houses should dig deep into their pockets and contribute more for the cause,” he said.

Employees of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited (MHRIL) will perform a folk dance, as part of the event, for entertaining the children.

“Talented employees among us have been performing for the children for the past few years. With every funfair, the children are increasingly found to participate with us in the dance and magic shows, shedding their reluctance,” said Prabhakaran Nair, Divisional Manager, Human Resources, Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited.
