Family of four found dead

June 27, 2010 02:58 am | Updated 02:58 am IST - CHENNAI:

A man and his wife allegedly committed suicide after murdering their two daughters at Kumaran Nagar here on Friday night. Acute poverty and debts forced the couple to take the extreme step, police said.

I. Anwar (32), an autorickshaw driver of Jaffarkhanpet, met his parents Iqbal and Amirunnissa residing in Sekhar Nagar and lamented over his financial problems.

An hour later when the aged couple went to see their son, the door was locked from inside.

Since there was no response for long, Iqbal peeped in through the window and saw Anwar and his wife A.Farida (24) hanging from the ceiling.

When he forced open the door and went inside, his granddaughters A. Raina (4) and A. Rizwana (3) were found dead on the bed with strangulation marks.

The bodies were shifted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. The Kumaran Nagar police are investigating whether Anwar was threatened or harassed by money lenders.
