Youth hacked to death

A 23-year-old youth was hacked to death inside the panchayat television room at Othivakkam village near Tirupporur in Kancheepuram district on Thursday.

Police said V. Gopi of West Tambaram had gone to his uncle Dhanasekaran's house in Othivakkam. Some weeks ago, they had gone in a huge group from Othivakkam to Jeyamkondam in Ariyalur district to attend a wedding.

He had picked up a quarrel with Murugan, from Othivakkam, who was also part of the group.

On Thursday evening, Gopi and Jayaprakash, a relative, went inside the unused television room of the village panchayat, when he was surrounded by a 10-member gang who questioned Gopi for fighting with Murugan. They attacked him with knives and killed him. Jayaprakash, who tried to intervene, was also attacked and sustained injuries. Police are searching for the assailants.
